I once took a Bible study course called “Blessed to be a
blessing.” The origin of that phrase is found in the promises God made to
Abram: “I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your
name great, so that you will be a blessing.” (Gen 12:2)
God will bless him, so that “he will be a blessing.” Here is
the basic foundation of the human journey: We are continually blessed,
sometimes in ways that we don’t even realize. Those blessings are not intended
for us alone, but so that we may be a blessing for others. The blessings we
have been given become responsibilities; we are not owners of the
blessings, but rather, we are stewards.
You, my friends, have been “blessed to be a blessing.” Give
thanks for your blessings, learn to cherish them, and continually pray for
guidance to be able to use them for others. If you do that, your journey will
be a source of great joys which aren’t available to those who are imprisoned by
their own selfishness.
